Like a cast of characters in a story, everyone is playing a part or persona type when it comes to the rigged layer of the economy
Our fight ultimately begins and ends with each and every one of us, ethical or corrupt. You, along with the massive corporations and televised politicians, are very much affected by the rigged economy theft, even if you don’t know it. Throughout this book, you’ll see the same personae appearing throughout.
Here, we will define specific persona types in the Zero Theft Movement’s philosophy. You will see how each contributes, for or against, the perpetuation of the rigged economy. Our system of ethics will then cross-index into each persona type, their behaviors, their goals, to effectively motivate the public as a whole to feel like they ought to fix it.
Persona Group #1: Corporations
Ethical corporations do not monopolize or control the market through collusion with their competitors. This ensures goods and/or services, including essential ones like medication, do not come with artificially high, exploitative prices and are good quality for the price. They provide livable wages and ethical working conditions to their employees.
Crony corporations carry out schemes to unethically, and sometimes illegally, boost profits. Price fixing, bid rigging, tax evasion, and slush funds are just a few examples of their dubious practices. They might also suppress wages, even though the company’s production and profit is increasing. Crony corporations, as we have noted in previous chapters, have established a vicious cycle in which they ‘capture’ regulators and legislators in order to continue rigging the economy.
Persona Group #2: Politicians
Ethical politicians seek to eradicate the rigged layer of the economy by holding crony corporations accountable for their schemes. Upstanding politicians legislate and regulate based on what they truly believe benefits citizens. When they receive leads with evidence suggesting economic foul play, they investigate the case and if necessary, fully expose the rigged structures and the bad actors responsible.
Crony politicians legislate based on moneyed interests, not what they believe is in our best interests. They pass or block laws/regulations depending on what will allow corrupt corporations to continue boosting profits unethically. Instead of working to eradicate the rigged layer of the economy, they deny the problem exists and even conceal unethical behavior.
The Panama Papers and other disclosures, for example, showed that corrupt corporations and individuals store more money offshore than the entire U.S. Gross Domestic Product (GDP). They do this to evade taxes. Even when the Panama Papers leaked, Congress ignored this lead, didn’t investigate and expose all of the wrongdoing and bad actors involved. According to the Zero Theft Movement’s philosophy, Congress’ inaction should be viewed as a choice to support those rigging the economy.
Persona Group #3: Citizens & Activists
Citizens & Activists Fighting the Rigged Economy
The citizens and activists fighting the rigged economy have taken the red pill. They know the problem is colossal and work collectively to fix it by:
- Championing and voting for challenger politicians;
- Utilizing media platforms to keep the public informed of economic corruption; and
- Collaborating through the Zero Theft Movement to define exactly what areas of the economy are rigged and how much is being stolen.
‘Sleeping’ Citizens & Activists
‘Sleeping’ citizens and activists are those who continue to take the blue pill, continue to ignore or dismiss the rigged economy. They might just be honestly unaware of the extent of the problem and unknowingly support politicians who have a history of aiding and abetting crony capitalists. We must strive to educate the sleepers, so they awake to how the rigged economy negatively affects them and their fellow citizens.
The Zero Theft Movement does not have any interest in partisan politics/competition or attacking/defending one side. We seek to eradicate theft from the U.S economy. In other words, how the wealthy and powerful rig the system to steal money from us, the everyday citizen. We need to collectively fight against crony capitalism in order for us to all profit from an ethical economy.
Terms like ‘steal,’ ‘theft,’ and ‘crime’ will frequently appear throughout the book. Zero Theft will NOT adhere strictly to the legal definitions of these terms (since congress sells out). We have broadly and openly defined terms like ‘steal’ and ‘theft’ to refer to the rigged economy and other debated unethical acts that can cause citizens to lose out on money they deserve to keep.
